After much anticipation, “Broadway by amar santana” is scheduled to open in September 2011. Inspired by the theaters in New York City, Chef Amar Santana an award wining chef along with his partners, Ahmed Labbate and Rich Cadarette will create an atmosphere where the food becomes the main “show”.
328 Glenneyre St | Laguna Beach,ca 92651 | (949) 715-8234
Haven Gastropub: The gastropub movement started in the early 90’s in London, England. The idea of taking an existing pub, injecting a gourmet chef, and elevating the experience for its patrons crossed the pond and has been permeating this country for a few years now. Only recently has Orange County become a destination for such fare.
- 190 South Glassell Street | Old Towne Orange, CA 92866 | (714) 221.0680
50 Forks will delight, excite and satisfy you. The Art Institute of California — Orange County’s student-run restaurant, is a California bistro that draws inspiration from culinary regions across America. Students demonstrate the skills they’ve learned through The Art Institute of California — Orange County’s culinary arts program and apply their experience in our real-world restaurant environment. The restaurant is a final passage prior to graduation for final-quarter culinary arts students.
3601 W. Sunflower Ave.| Santa Ana, CA 92704-9888 | (714)429.0918
Lola Gaspar | 211 W 2nd St. | Santa Ana, CA 92701 | T 714-972-1172
Lola Gaspar, is a kitchen and bar that offers great regional food without the pretense. Our restaurant is situated in the historic Santora Building- the center of Santa Ana’s Artist Village. At Lola, we specialize in small plates and dishes made from scratch in our own kitchen. Our ideology is to take Latin and European classics and offer our interpretation by using local ingredients and modern techniques. Our kitchen is open late seven days a week for those nocturnal eaters.
Brodard Chateau | 9100 Trask Avenue | Garden Grove, California 92844 | T: 714.899.8273
The family’s newest addition, Brodard Chateau opened in July 2006. The two-story restaurant was created by the family’s elegant matriarch, Diane Dang, known by her friends and frequent guests as “Madame Brodard,” referring to the namesake of her famous restaurants. Her daughters, Chau Dang-Haller and Lisa Dang-Vo lend their culinary creativity while maintaining a sense of tradition, authenticity and integrity of ingredients with specialty dishes from three regions of Vietnam: Ha Noi, Hue and Saigon. Brodard Chateau also offers a seasonal menu that features a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits and meats in keeping with the harmonious balance of healthy yet flavorful dishes to entice the most discriminating diners.
Mesa Costa Mesa
Mesa | 725 Baker Street, Costa Mesa | (714) 557-6700
The CAMP. An enticing little world built in the middle of Costa Mesa offering an culinary experience that is far stretched and entirely intriguing. A tucked away gem that spins Monday thru Thursday 9p-12am, offers 3-Course meals, lunch, and dinner, firepits, co-ed bathrooms, old Hollywood films projected onto the eco walls, and an ambiance that is certainly closer to NY and LA than Orange County. A rare find and a stop worth making.
Eva’s Caribbean Kitchen
Eva’s | 31732 Coast Hwy | Laguna Beach, CA 92651-6974 | 949.499.6311
Going to Eva’s Caribbean Kitchen is like going to someone’s home in the Caribbean. Eva is almost always there and when you enter, she will remember your name, cook a meal that makes you feel like you’re a family member, and offer drinks that will take you to the island sands. It’s a fun experience, especially when there is some island libation by way of Steel Drums. Nestled on the Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, Eva’s is a spot where locals dine and those in need of a some island fare and a little familiarity flock to.
ECCO | 2937 Bristol St., #A103 | Costa Mesa, CA 92626 | 714.444.3226
Located at The CAMP in Costa Mesa (just across from the LAB: The Anti-Mall), ECCO is one of those rare finds in Orange County. With an urban feel and easy vibe, the menu has something for everyone. I’d recommend grabbing the burger (but come hungry!), trying any one of their salads (my favorite is the strawberry salad), and giving the Diavola pizza a go, which LA Times describes as “a lovely loose tomato sauce with imported fresh mozzarella, Grana Padano and hot sausage. Every bite different and definitely, as the name suggests, devilish.” Try a beer on tap or order from an impressive selection of wines; Many of which imported from Italy. Top it all off with one of their scrumptious desserts – my recommendation, be a glutton and go for the Zeppole.
